How can we all participate in making Amsterdam a liveable, egalitarian and sustainably designed city?
Arcam is a meeting place for everyone interested in architecture, urban planning and landscape design. The centre exists to examine the significance of architecture in relation to the urban challenges and ambitions that will affect the city in the years ahead.
Through debates, presentations and events, Arcam looks at the role played by designers and urban developers in meeting these challenges, and provides a neutral platform for designers, clients, builders and city dwellers to have their say.
Arcam operates at the nexus of society and architecture, and provides a basis from which to consider how the two worlds influence one another.
Three doorways to learning
Arcam’s activities fall under three categories: Explore (professional analyses), Visit (information and activity centre) and Discover ( exploring the city).
Amsterdam in pocket-size
The website also provides a practical and informative architecture guide that helps visitors learn more about contemporary architecture and the many architectural gems that Amsterdam has to offer.
The AAP
Each year, Arcam nominates a number of completed projects for the Amsterdam Architecture Prize, which goes to the architect and client of the building judged to be the most beautiful and most exemplary, or the most challenging and innovative.
“Our brainstorming sessions with HOAX allowed us to identify our true essence and create a visual identity that we are now proud to share with the world. Their ability to remain constructively critical while welcoming different perspectives facilitated a highly fruitful collaboration.”
